Perusall
Perusall is a social annotation app that enables students to highlight, comment, and discuss texts within the margins of documents, fostering a more interactive and social learning experience.

- Installation in Canvas
Perusall has already been installed on Canvas. To use it, go to your Canvas course, add Perusall as an external tool Links to an external site. via the assignment settings, and configure it to integrate with your course (check out the Canvas Integration features video Links to an external site. to learn more about setting up a Perusall course). You can also enbale a Perusall link in your course navigation pane through the course Navigation settings.
- Creating an assignment
In Perusall, select "Create Assignment," upload a document (PDF, website, video, audio, podcast, etc.), and set instructions and deadlines. The following video shows how to create a Perusall assignment.
- How to grade/give feedback
Perusall auto-grades based on engagement using one of its selected four scoring (Holistic, Comment content only, Focus on reading/watching, Focus on social engagement, and Focus on quizzes) rubrics. You can review annotations, adjust grades, and leave feedback directly in the document, and you can also modify the selected rubric criteria to make it work for you and your class (see below).

- How to use the tool
Access Perusall through the Canvas course link, egage (read/watch/listen) with the content (texts, videos, audio, podcast, etc.) that your instructor has assigned to you, and make annotations by highlighting and commenting on the document. - How to submit assignments
Go to the Perusall assignment link in Canvas, complete your annotations, and they will auto-save. The following video shows you how this process works.
