Introduction:

Embedding videos from video hosting websites is beneficial for a number of reasons. For one, embeds take up a lot less storage in online courses. Also, they tend to be quicker to load than videos that aren't hosted on specialized sites (such as ones directly loaded into the LMS). And finally, they transfer smoothly as old courses are loaded into new terms. This tutorial will show you how to retrieve embedding code from YouTube and Vimeo and then paste it into a page in your Canvas shell. The result is a video that plays directly in Canvas.

Instructions:

Locate the video that you wish to use in your course.
Locate the embed code.
1. YouTube and Vimeo embed codes can be found in the Share menu under the video and its title. Click Share > Embed and then copy all of the iframe code.
Copy the iframe embed code. It will look similar to the image below - make sure you copy from "<iframe" all the way to "</iframe>"
Go to your Canvas course and create a new page, assignment, or other item and then edit it.
At the bottom of your text editor, click the button at the far right of your row of editor buttons (it may be hidden in the three dots on smaller browser windows).
Paste your embed code into your text box and click Submit.
