“Is capitalism sustainable?” is a fundamental question for both the theory and practice of sustainability. This course is a critical examination of how to ask and answer this question, both conceptually and in practice.

In taking this course, you should learn to:

  • Question the role of capitalism in sustainability.
  • Summarize different perspectives on the sustainability of capitalism.
  • Develop your own position on the sustainability of capitalism.

This course fulfills requirements in the Sustainability major and minor and also in General Education (Integrating Knowledge: Science, Technology and Society). As part of the General Education program, this course promotes learning for Citizenship and Multidisciplinary Learning. This course may also fulfill requirements in interdisciplinary programs like Social Science and Interdisciplinary Studies.
