What we are doing.

We are using our knowledge of color theory to paint the values of a monochromatic hue.

Achromatic and Chromatic Values

Supplies

For this assignment you will need the following:

  • Chromatic paint of your choice (acrylic paint)
  • Primary Titanium White (acrylic paint)
  • Brushes: ideally a flat or angled flat brush will work well for this assignment.
  • Rags, water, and or other cleaning materials.
    • Extra supplies to consider: Titanium White


Media:

Canvas, Bristol, or Acrylic painters paper.

Rags, water, and or other cleaning materials.

 

The size of the this monochromatic painting should proportionately fit an 8x10 media. When you have completed your painting, wait for it to dry, then take a picture (jpg or png format please) of your monochromatic value painting and submit it here.

 

Instruction on using the template: 

  1. Download this value template Download value template pdf document.

  2. Print the document to create a template for your value template.

  3. Use transfer paper (carbon paper) to trace the lines onto the canvas or other media.

  4. Start painting in the squares.

Note: if you chose to paint the center of the template, please paint the value variance to white.
